Create a GoFundMe
Have you ever seen a GoFundMe and resonated with a story similar to that of our children? Studies show that donors are more likely to trust GoFundMe fundraisers and people are more likely to share GoFundMe fundraisers on social media. We'd like to encourage all our SPATA Families to create a GoFundMe to highlight their child (or children) to benefit The SPATA Foundation for research.

This is a great way to get involved, tell your child's story, and impact the future.

If done correctly by following the steps below, donors can still receive a tax benefit.
STEP 1
CLICK HERE to start a GoFundMe campaign.

REGARDLESS OF YOUR LOCATION, choose United States for the country and input the zip code 32164. This is because this is where the funds will be withdrawn as you will be fundraising directly to The SPATA Foundation.

Note: Only donors in the United States will be eligible for a tax benefit.
STEP 2
Choose Charity. This is the ONLY way for donations to go directly to The SPATA Foundation. You will not have to deal with transferring any funds, and donors in the US can still get a tax benefit IF you choose Charity.
STEP 3
Search by our EIN: 93-3768682 and choose SPATA Foundation Inc.
STEP 4
Confirm SPATA Foundation Inc is chosen and click CONTINUE.
STEP 5
Set your fundraising goal. If 30 families commit to fundraising $10,000 over the next few months, we could most likely fund the first year of Gene Therapy research.

You can make your goal as ambitious as you'd like. There is no limit.

STEP 6
Create your account. Make sure you use an email address you check often and write down your login information.
STEP 7
Upload a cover photo. If you're comfortable, I recommend using one that will pull at the heart strings. We want to show people the awful side of SPATA5 and SPATA5L1. Maybe it's your child getting an EEG, in an ambulance, or post-surgery.

The more sad, the better. We want people to FEEL and see what our kids go through.
STEP 8
Write your child's story. Make it emotional. Feel free to use this as a template.
STEP 9
Name your fundraiser. I recommend keeping it simple and easy to understand. Some recommendations:

STEP 10
SHARE. Share anywhere you can. Your personal social media pages, local Facebook groups, email media outlets, send to local known wealthy families, print a flyer with a QR code for local businesses, ask local businesses to share on their social media.
